Last Friday, something special happened.
Fashion Fusion CIC and Roots to Renewal took part in the Eden Project's Big Lunch — the national celebration where communities come together to share food, conversation and time.
And what a day it was.
We gathered in the wonderful Rail Room at Danum Gallery, Library and Museum (DGLAM). This space holds a special place in our hearts. It's where we held the Roots to Renewal fashion show back in November. Returning here for the Big Lunch felt like coming home.
Seeds, plants and new growth
Angela from Plantaura was with us, running seed swaps and giving away free plants grown right here at DGLAM.
It was a joy to share these and send people home with something to nurture.
Fixing, not throwing away
Gaynor and her brilliant team of volunteers from Rossington Community Repair Workshop were on hand all day.
They mended small household items, electricals and clothing — proof of how much can be saved with a little care and skill.
Textile know-how
Susan from Artfelt guided people through the work we do.
She offered advice on all kinds of textile needs, from repairs to creative ideas.
A crumble that stole the show
Amy and Dawn from Recipe 4 Change ran a build-your-own fresh fruit crumble station.
It went down a storm.
A garden in bloom
It was wonderful to see how the natural dye garden in the community garden is coming along.
Watching it bloom reminded us just how far Roots to Renewal has grown.
Old friends and new faces
We welcomed both new and familiar faces.
Some had been part of Roots to Renewal already — through our workshops, or as models in the fashion show. It meant so much to see them again.
Coming up: the Eco Art Fashion Show
We were delighted to have Jasmine from Sketch and Bloom and Hamra from World Women Wellbeing join us.
They were sharing news of their upcoming Eco Art Fashion Show. Don't miss it:
- Where: The Corn Exchange, Doncaster
- When: Friday 26th June, 12–3pm
Supported by our wider community
It was brilliant to see the sustainable team from Doncaster Council join us, along with members of other local groups and organisations.
Days like this only work because of the people who turn up, share and get involved.
More than a lunch
We shared food. We had funny, honest, heartfelt conversations. We simply enjoyed being together.
Because that's what community is really about — the people, the connections, and the joy of creating side by side.
Thank you to everyone who came, helped and shared the day with us.
Want to be part of the next one?
